Alex Cappai
Dr Alessandra (Alex) Cappai is a Consultant Psychiatrist and the founder of Diverse Minds Clinic. Alongside her private practice, she works in the NHS within the North London ADHD Service.
Dr Cappai has particular expertise in neurodevelopmental conditions, with a strong clinical focus on the assessment and treatment of ADHD and autism in adults. Her approach combines specialist knowledge of neurodevelopmental presentations with extensive experience in general adult psychiatry, allowing her to consider symptoms within the wider context of an individual’s mental health, life experiences and overall functioning.
Her broader psychiatric expertise includes the assessment and management of mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders, including generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She also has a particular interest in women’s mental health, including the ways in which ADHD, autism and other mental health conditions may present differently in women and interact with different stages of a woman’s life.
Throughout her career, Dr Cappai has worked extensively within multidisciplinary teams and has successfully led and managed clinical services. She is highly regarded by both patients and colleagues and has consistently received excellent feedback for her clinical work.
Within the NHS, Dr Cappai has been actively involved in improving existing care pathways and developing new models of care. This has included designing innovative pathways for ADHD and autism within Surrey prisons, as well as leading successful Quality Improvement projects aimed at improving the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of clinical services.
Dr Cappai also has a strong interest in medical research. She has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her work at national and international conferences, contributing to the development of psychiatric practice and research, particularly within the field of neurodevelopmental conditions
